The Buffer Law:
1. an average of 50 feet of buffer, minimum of 30 feet, or
2. state shoreland standards and criteria (50 feet of buffer in Winona County)
Note: the buffer widths listed above are for each side of the public waters.

Options for Compliance with the Buffer Law
There are numerous options for landowners to stay in compliance with the buffer law:
> Reinvest in Minnesota (RIM) Reserve
> Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)
> Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP)

Winona County SWCD has identified the

required by the Minnesota 2015 Buffer Law.
Minnesota’s 2015 Buffer Law:
Winona County Buffer Law and Shoreland Ordinance require a 50 foot perennial vegetative buffer along all public waters.
